WSN’s environmental scientists in MN & ND provide EAWs, ESAs, groundwater studies, hazardous materials inspections, sampling, and wetland delineations. The land you own and everything on it, or in it, is an extremely valuable asset to you and the people in your community. Maintaining a safe and healthy environment is critical to everyone and everything around you. Our environmental scientists have a diverse background with 40 years of professional experience in a broad range of environmental service areas geared toward improving environmental quality. Our scientists have worked on projects ranging from pollution prevention plans to extensive contamination clean-ups. We build solid relationships by repeatedly delivering superior environmental services to various public and private clients across the Upper Midwest. We provide environmental services from eight locations, including Alexandria, Bemidji, Brainerd/Baxter, Crookston, East Grand Forks, Forest Lake, Grand Forks, and Rochester.

We have completed several brownfield projects from large industrial complexes to small pesticide release sites. We provide initial assessments, drilling investigations, development response action plans (DRAPs), and contamination clean-up.


Compliance and Permitting

We prepare necessary applications and documents, negotiate with regulatory agencies, and coordinate permit approvals for projects.


Environmental Review: EAW, EIS, EA, AUAR

Our staff performs Environmental Assessment Worksheets (EAWs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs) to examine how a project may impact wetlands, wildlife, groundwater, transportation, farmland, and residents.


Environmental Site Assessment

We are proficient in three types of environmental assessments: contamination, hazardous building and property materials, and potential environmental impacts. We have conducted hundreds of Phase I and II assessments to study properties for government agencies, banks, and other private businesses.


Groundwater Study

Our team examines the characteristics of aquifers and analyzes groundwater flow data to determine the appropriate needs for each client. Studies may also focus on monitoring the aquifers around waste ponds and landfills to determine the potential for contamination.


Hazardous Materials Inspection

Our team conducts tests to determine if lead, asbestos, or other harmful materials are present and the best strategies to remove them. We inspect property, homes, businesses, and bridges for a wide range of public and private clients.



Our team of surveyors, engineers, and geologists can provide a full-service package for the design and permitting of demolition landfills. We also offer necessary annual services to keep the landfill compliant with all applicable rules and regulations.



We offer a full range of remediation services for soil and groundwater. We have experience with a wide variety of remediation technologies and contaminants. Our services include corrective action design, excavation observation, pilot testing, remedial system design, construction observation, and operation and maintenance.



We can assist you with your environmental sampling needs. Our field staff has experience in the collection and analysis of groundwater, surface water, soil, and leachate samples. We also provide asbestos and lead sample collection.


Site Investigation

We have completed hundreds of soil and groundwater investigations. Our team carefully identifies and characterizes the source and extent of the contamination. Once identified, we use appropriate drilling techniques for a variety of site conditions. We provide Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, Limited Site Investigations, Remedial Investigations, and Feasibility Studies.



We have a certified team of wetland specialists that know the rules and regulations of wetlands and the best ways to protect them. In addition to wetland expertise, we also have a strong background in the supporting sciences of hydrology, soil science, and ecology. Our staff is trained in current field methods, restoration and creation technologies, and regulatory compliance assistance.
