Alexandria Fire Station
Within weeks of its completion, the new Alexandria Fire Station was hailed as the most functional fire station in Minnesota. WSN was responsible for architectural, civil, and structural engineering services for the 18,000 sq.ft. facility. It was designed to serve an expanding service area and to provide improved accommodations for training the volunteer force. The fire station has become a City landmark.
The building is organized into two distinct areas: visitor/volunteer spaces and apparatus rooms. The two areas are linked by a skylighted, two-story gallery which also connects the street and parking entrances. Windows in the gallery wall allow crews to observe activities and firefighting equipment in the adjacent apparatus room.
The facility includes offices, a commercial kitchen, locker rooms, and a training room with an exit to a balcony used to practice rescues and rappelling.
