MPCA WPLMN Swan River Sampling
Little Falls, MN
Monitoring Minnesota rivers is vital in determining, maintaining, and improving their environmental quality. Knowing how healthy our rivers are is important for public use. WSN is a contractor through the Mississippi Headwaters Board and is completing work for the Watershed Pollution Load Monitoring Network that is operated by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Surface water is collected from rivers to track water quality trends in a wide range of climatic conditions. Surface water samples are sent to a certified laboratory and tested for a variety of parameters to calculate pollution loads in the water. WSN visits five river sites throughout central Minnesota and records site conditions while collecting surface water samples. This particular location is along the Swan River near Little Falls, MN, which is a subwatershed to the Mississippi River.
