Central Minnesota Christian School
Central Minnesota Christian School (CMCS), located in Prinsburg, Minnesota, is the recipient of the Eagle Award—the top honor bestowed by the Minnesota/North Dakota Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). Widseth Smith Nolting’s architectural team worked closely with school administration, staff, and supporters to design a facility that enriches the school’s curriculum and mission.
The CMCS project entailed replacing the campus’ existing junior/senior high school with a new and larger facility in its place. The junior/senior high and the elementary school are now connected by a new link, which serves all grades and includes a cafetorium, kitchen, storage rooms, and a green room and prop room for the stage area. A new library, offices, classrooms, and a concession area were also added. Based on the success of the first phase, the project budget for the second phase was increased ensuring that the design will match the first phase. The second phase includes a new gymnasium with choir, band, industrial arts, and a community weight room. It also includes special education classrooms.
ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards recognize outstanding construction projects, safety programs, and diversity programs. As the Eagle Award winner, CMCS will go on to compete with projects from across the United States in ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards national competition. Marcus Construction of Willmar, Minnesota, was the contractor for the Central Minnesota Christian School project.
