Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters and Visitor Center (LEED® Silver)
The Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters and Visitor Center includes a visitor center wing, an exhibit hall, multipurpose rooms for classroom space and educational programs, meeting spaces, and a large administration wing. The campus also includes a maintenance shop and fire cache building, which is the first structure of its kind to receive LEED® certification.
The Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters and Visitor Center provides many learning opportunities in a variety of unique architectural spaces for tourists of all ages. The spacious entry, lobby, and public areas are filled with stunning, colorful graphics. Clerestory windows flood these spaces with natural light, which provides a warm, welcoming environment and also reduces energy costs. There are several exhibit spaces that incorporate walls of images and information, natural displays, and a variety of interactive, multi-media presentations. The Visitor Center not only educates us about the environment, it also actively seeks to preserve it. Alternative energy sources are emphasized, including a geothermal system, wind turbines, and solar panels.
