The North Koochiching Area Sanitary District serves 7,000 residents along Rainy Lake in northern Minnesota. July’s featured project on your WSN calendar: Geneva Road

This narrow road, typical for the era in which it was built, has been transformed into a beautiful and safe roadway and separated multi-use trail. Among the many challenges were working within a tight corridor with an operational railroad on one side and a recreational lake on the other, plus maintaining the channel that links Lake Geneva and Lake Le Homme Dieu. The result is an enjoyable drive, ride, walk, or cruise for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and boat captains. Geneva Road is located in Alexandria, MN.

June’s featured project on your WSN calendar: Lakewood Estates

The 104-unit Lakewood Estates provides spacious modern units that take advantage of the site’s amenities. A sand beach surrounds the adjacent pond, and residents may enjoy the community deck, fitness room, and outdoor play areas. The facility includes underground parking and a separate aboveground, double-sided parking structure. Framed by brick and timber, the entrance areas reflect a traditional design that makes tenants feel right at home. Lakewood Estates is located in Mandan, ND.

April’s featured project on your WSN calendar: Morris Apostolic Christian Church

The first phase of this new church facility includes the fellowship hall, dining room and kitchen, nursery, sitting areas, and Sunday school wing. A future expansion will add the assembly room, which is currently accommodated in the Sunday school wing. Comfortable chairs, home-like finishes, and a stone fireplace offer a welcoming lounge area for relaxing or engaging in conversation between services. The dining room and kitchen serve as the social heart of the facility, where members share food and fellowship each week.

March’s featured project on your WSN calendar: Mills Fleet Farm

The site for the newest, highly anticipated Mills Fleet Farm presented challenges that were unique to this regional retailer, yet typical of the Arrowhead Region of Minnesota. With elevations that varied as much as seventy feet throughout the site, developing thirty of the forty acres required creative and skillful engineering. February’s featured project on your WSN calendar: The Northern Pacific Center

The Northern Pacific Center is a premier mixed-use campus, offering unique spaces on the grounds of a former railroad complex. The addition of new tenant Roundhouse Brewery was the catalyst for site improvements that would not only accommodate Roundhouse but also future tenants. Widseth Smith Nolting’s team preserved a portion of the former railyard turntable in the parking area and designed additional improvements including sidewalks, drainage, and a patio for Roundhouse’s customers. The improvements preserve and build upon the unique qualities of the historic site.

January’s featured project on your WSN calendar: Steele County History Center

The Steele County History Center’s striking exterior is a community icon. The curved glass wall allows natural light to stream into the interior spaces throughout the day while revealing displays and activities to passersby at night. In addition to the historical and interpretive display area, spaces include artifact and archival storage, genealogy research rooms, gift shop, administrative offices, multi-purpose rooms, commercial kitchen, kitchenette, and theater. This project was completed by Kane & Johnson Architects, prior to the firm’s acquisition by Widseth Smith Nolting.

Through planning meetings, design charrettes, and ongoing discussions with LPTV and other stakeholders, WSN’s design team gained valuable insight into LPTV’s needs, goals, and visions for its new 17,600 square foot broadcast facility.
